CANE is pleased to announce a 2-hour SEMINAR ON RIGGING AND HARDWARE presented by Kevin Montague from North East Rigging and Oakley Jones from Harken.

When should you replace your standing or running rigging?  How can you tell if your standing rigging is out of adjustment?  When should you call a rigger for assistance?  Can I replace any of my conventional rigging with dyneema?  Should I?  When do lifelines need to be replaced?  What other questions do you have?

  • Kevin Montague of North East Rigging:Kevin, a lifelong boater, worked for Marine Exchange from 1977 to 2001 when he founded North East Rigging Systems, LLC. Kevin’s experience has been with numerous boat projects working with both cruising and racing boats of various sizes as well as new build projects. Throughout his career Kevin has authored articles for SAIL magazine and sits on the advisory board of the New England Boat Show. Kevin’s sailing experience consists of numerous offshore passages competing in various racing venues and regattas at many levels. Kevin is a graduate of Mass Maritime Academy.
  • Oakley Jones of Harken:Oakley was born on the north shore of Boston and grew up sailing out of the Falmouth Yacht Club on the Cape.  After attending school at Tabor Academy in Marion, he went on to Mass Maritime and ultimately Salve Regina in Newport.  He ran the nav station at the Armchair Sailor Bookstore for 7 years before joining Harken, where he has been for 19 years now.  Oakely is an active one-design racer having competed in most of the usual events in Newport and New England.  He has represented the NYYC twice at the NYYC Invitational Cup. Oakley is married with two small children. He presently owns a vintage 1968 Pearson 31.1 that he and his wife and I are slowly refitting to do some local family cruising.

Kevin and Oakley will be presenting general information, but are happy to address specific topics of interest to our membership.  If you have topics of particular interest, please email our new Vice Commodore, Clive Jacques at vicecommodore.cane@gmail.com.    (Big shoutout to CLIVE for arranging this!)

If you are interested in getting together for lunch afterwards we suggest Blue Ribbon BBQ in Dedham (10 minutes from the event).  They have a reasonably priced menu and a 4.2 star rating
