Provincetown Shakedown Cruise 2010

It was a full moon , clear skies, calm (too calm )seas. Our shakedown ptown CANE cruise brought together 7 boats with 9 member families in attendance for the Portuguese Festival Weekend. Paul Dardano and Beth Shepard on Coda with guests Mark and Lois Schmidt, Don and Bev Kluberdanz on Gemeni II with guests Peter and Marlyn Sicurella, Paul and Phyllis Robinson on Goodnight Moon, Stan and Diane Walsh on Makin’ Progress, Carl and Gabriella Cunningham on Birds nest, Vinnie and Wendy on Wendy’s Dream and finally myself and Jay Swartz on Siochanta.

The Festivities started Friday night with some members attending the all you can eat clam feast. There was music and celebrations spread out the entire weekend. We all did the Commercial street stroll running into each other by chance the weekend. This is a family weekend in Provincetown so there were activities geared to younger people also. There is literally something for everyone, shoppers, eaters, gallery goers, show goers.

One of the weekend’s highlights was the Festival Parade with Portuguese bands and dancers and a few floats. After the parade we all congregated at our boat for the traditional CANE cocktail party.

I counted 18 people, and most of us fit into Siochanta’s cockpit. Should I call Frank Butler, could it be a record? Photos speak for themselves as we all had a great time.

Hopefully the Portuguese Festival Weekend will become a fixture in the Cane calendar.
