Benifits of CANE Membership

The message below, by past commodores Steve Dempsey and Scott MacKinlay, puts it nicely:

Friends, The 1st member program ("Cooking on Board") for the new year was held at Mark and Lois Schmidts home on January 23rd and by all accounts it was an excellent learning and social experience as we became budding cruise chefs. Being the inaugural session, we thought it is a good opportunity to encourage members to take the time to participate in future fleet activities. If we consider only the monetary value to us we can conclude the CANE dues of $30. are a drop in the bucket as compared to what the cost might be if we took part in similar programs offered privately. For example, the next three sessions, Hansen Marine- Diesel Maintenance, Hamilton- Ferris- Battery Upgrades, Alternators and Alternative Energy Sources, and West Marine- MOB Procedures would ( if you can find them) cost a person hundreds of dollars. Also. if a person spent $200-$300 at the West Marine session another $40-$60 would be saved on purchases.

t would be foolish to believe that money saved is the only value to members, The friendships and comradely that are developed are priceless and carryover to our social activities and most importantly to our reason for being-- SAILING. Presently, the fleet has over 100 boats. It would be great if we were able to serve all of our members in some manner. After being involved for many years , we know this is impossible unless members take the 1st step. Many of us did and have gained much knowledge, lasting friendships, and sailing adventures too numerous to count. Our web site (www.allcatalinane.org) provides members with access to fleet activities, however members are free to contact fleet officers if questions arise. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
